shape of non-beings 2024

Cabrera painted ‘Shape of Non-Beings’ from memory after visiting a place that does not exist. There, he saw bashful colors become loquacious, shapes turn brute, orange befriend a triangle, and red fall in love with a square. The series embodies his commitment to exploring layered, often personal narratives and visions, encompassing idealisms and distortions. His evolving practice continues to engage with themes central to the Latino/x/e experience to depict the intersections of identity, memory, place, and divergent realities—both within the depths of the subconscious psyche and the canvas of society that contains and restrains it.

Shape of Non-Beings was Cabrera's second solo exhibition of 2024. The show ran for a month and a half at the Geri Baer Gallery, established by the Hampton Library in Bridgehampton, New York, from June 5 to July 20, 2024.
